Local pride was at stake for the near neighbours in Tenerife South as UD Ibarra from El Fraile grabbed a 0-2 win at CD Marino in Playa de Las Americas after an opening onslaught. Both were playing out their season in mid table and sounded each other out in the opening minutes. Aday could find no takers to convert his swinging cross for the home blues, and Alexis was squeezed out by the Marino defence.

Ibarra looked the more menacing, they were powerful going forward with Balduino eager to score against his former team. After nine minutes, a long ball free kick from Ibarra was headed on to Muny to bury past goalie Brandon. Balduino had two strong charges halted by the home defence, and a hopeful lob from distance by Alonso cleared the crossbar. Coly set Jurgen free for another crack at the Marino goal but Brandon tidied up.

Pressure was building on Marino and Balduino was bearing down on goal when Saavedra stopped him in his tracks but gave away a penalty. The big striker placed his spot kick perfectly for a 20th minute 0-2 lead. It could have led to a complete collapse but Marino steadied the ship and found some better form. Javi Gonzalez gave Cicovic some work to do in the Ibarra goal as he made a speedy run. Niki raided from the right back slot and fed Javi, this time his shot teased before sneaking past the post. Marino tried again and forced a corner, Guti met it well with his head but the ball went a little too high. Ahmed was coming into the game more as he moved over to the right of the Marino attack, he beat two visiting defenders before delivering a soft shot that ran into the goalies hands.

Mylan Carrasco replaced Juanmi at half time and linked well with Sesma to produce plenty of threats down the left flank. Mendy had to make a sturdy headed clearance to stop Mylan from completing a well worked move with a goal. The first 20 minutes of the second half were the most promising for Marino and when Kevin Castro joined the action in place of injured Bamba they varied the play. Kevin was picking up the ball in a deep position and exposing gaps to support the forward line.The final touch was lacking, Mylan opened up the Ibarra defence out wide and slung the ball over but it was leapt on by Cicovic.

Alexis tested Brandon as Ibarra emerged from Marino´s dominant spell, Alexis was the player on the end of the breakaway move that the keeper contained. Balduino was hard to hold off a he brushed past two markers and headed the ball down for a shot but it didn´t quite fall right and he wasn´t able to get a clean strike. Carballo came on for Ibarra and was another forceful player up front, Niki did well to derail him as he moved in for a strike. Into the last 10 minutes and Mylan lashed a shot at the visitors goal, Cicovic dived to put the ball out with a great save. From the corner the keeper followed up with a determined punch that cleared a hanging ball. By injury time the victory was safe and Muny tried his luck with a cheeky lob from the half way line that Brandon tipped over with the last touch of the game. The teams are now 10th (CDM) and 11th (UDI) with five games left in the Tercera Division Group 12.

Clear chances were at a premium in the 0-0 draw between CD Marino and CD Tenerife B but when danger did call, both keepers, David of Marino, and Otaño of Tenerife met it with a safe pair of hands. Both teams were occupying mid table after early season promise had slipped away. Aleman looked hesitant in the heart of the visitors defence and was beaten easily by Ahmed before Otaño tidied up. Tenerife had a chance at the other end from a corner, Tito couldn´t connect with the ball as it came across. Sesma spotted home team mate Mylan in a good position and made the pass but his shot went wide. Tenerife were relying too much on hopeful long balls up the field, Torres raced to catch one but David reacted quicker. There was a blow for the away team when Samu was injured in a tackle, he tried to run it off before having to give way to sub Javi.

Another speculative ball from Tenerife was heading to Josue, Brayan read it well and made a strong intervention. Neither side could really find any consistency, twice the visitors were awarded free kicks and hit the ball straight into the defending wall. Saavedra tried his luck with a high long ball into the Tenerife box, Otaño was safely under it with a clean catch. Tenerife left back Jeremi made a good run but his swinging cross was expertly covered by David in the home goal. Mylan had the last word for the half, he took the ball inside the away defence but the finish was just wide.

Marino opened the second half with their tails up. A free kick left the Tenerife defence scrambling and it was down to Otaño to deprieve Saavedra of a shot at close range. Both teams couldn´t make their free kicks count, Guti struck one straight at Otaño. The game should have swung in favour of Tenerife when Bamba got a second booking and was sent off for Marino. The blues reorganised, bringing on Alberto for Mylan and they saw off an increased spell of pressure from their opponents. Tenerife captain, Fede, led by example as he pushed up from right back to help his forwards, he got a couple of good crosses in, again the finishing touch was missing.

Borja Llarena and Adri entered the action as subs for Tenerife and both had a positive impact. Borja, who played for the Tenerife first team at the end of last season, showed much more awareness and got into some good positions, he came close to scoring with a bullet header. Adri was tough in the tackle and hard to shake off the ball. Marino tried to shake things up to, Djavan was added to the attack in place of Ahmed. It revived the blues attacking urges, Brayan was well placed for a header but Otaño plucked the ball off his head. Torres made a breakaway for Tenerife, David was alert and showed that he intended to match the other stopper.

It must have been quite daunting to the teams to come up against two goalies on top form, a curled free kick from Guti was snuffed out by Otaño, and Josue was out jumped at the other end by David. The final home sub, Jony, forced a couple of corners that Tenerife cleared, and deep in injury time Alberto couldn´t quite stretch to keep in an offside pass that evaded the refs whistle. It ended honours even, thanks in no small part, to the hard working keepers.

Frustration was the name of the game for CD Marino as visitors UD Villa Santa Brigida took a 15th minute lead and then threw bodies behind the ball, and to the ground to try to hang on.The Gran Canaria team´s goal was under siege for most of the game but there was some justice when top scorer Ahmed ensured a 1-1 draw with a late penalty goal.
Santa Brigida were positive in the opening exchanges, they forced a corner that Marino´s Juanmi cleared up with a header back to goalie David. Jeremy floated in a free kick that Padilla put over the bar as the blues struggled to stake their home claim. The opening goal was a smooth move, Santi drifted across the box, laid the ball off to Ojeda, and he tucked it past David. That shook Marino into action, Guti picked out Gaizka with a well weighted chip but Brigida cleared the danger. Niki was making good ground from right back but his cross was headed high by Juanmi. Marino´s play was a little predictable down the right where big defenders Leandro and Juanyi made life tough for them. Once Bamba pushed up from midfield on the other flank, Brigida were stretched more and Marino tore into them.

There was little conviction in a free kick on the edge of Marino´s box and it was easily cleared. The blues penned Brigida back for the last 20 minutes of the first half. Bamba forced a save out of Ione, and Guti was almost glued to the corner flag as he sent in three corners in quick succession. Bamba blasted wide with the last shot of the half and it seemed that home goals would follow after the break. Marino came back out charged up, Gaizka ran the ball at the goalie, he stood firm to seize it. Samuel chested a falling ball under control before feeding Jony who was robbed by an alert defender. When Brigida broke to the other end, David make a fine sliding intervention to protect his goal, and a free kick faltered against a sturdy home wall.

Brigida players were starting to go down with annoying regularity but Marino kept their sights on levelling the game. Gaizkar tested the goalie again and two subs, Ahmed and Mylan added new threats to the forward line. Niki delivered another classy cross which Saavedra glanced wide with his head. When Niki found Gaizka again, his shot had a bit too much height on it. While chasing the game, Marino had to be careful not to leave themselves open, David made a great stop from a Brigida breakaway. Mylan caused plenty of problems on Marino´s left as the game became disjointed with the amount of Brigida players writhing on the ground reaching a ridiculous level.

Ahmed teased the visitors down the right, he had an eye for goal and his curled shot went just the wrong side of the post. Marino followed up with another incisive move, Brayan found Gaizka just inside the box and Angelo held him down to give away a clear penalty. Ahmed stepped up and stroked in his 13th goal of the season past the full stretch keeper. As the final four minutes ticked down, Mylan rounded the goalie to rob him of the ball but as he pulled away into a clearer shooting position, Trujillo won the ball back and his own breakaway was only stopped by Mylan´s pull. Marino had to settle for the draw and slipped to 9th in their Tercera Division group.

Unfamiliar faces in unusual roles was not the perfect recipe for CD Marino to take on visitors UD San Fernando from Maspalomas in Gran Canaria. Ravaged by injuries, the blues came from behind for a well earned 1-1 draw, thanks to hard work and a battling attitude.

Striker Gaizka and midfielder Juanmi adapted well to filling the heart of the home defence, and Prince dipped back to help them, his early block of Fede set the tone for the resolute rear guard. Ahmed assumed extra responsibility up front, he rounded the yellows defence with ease before firing a speculative cross too high. Javi Gonzalez benefitted from a long ball in, he leapt well to head the ball but it went straight to goalie Choolani. There was a let off at the other end when Brandon only half stopped a San Fernando shot, the ball squirmed loose but trickled harmlessly out of danger as forwards rushed to reach it.

Much of San Fernando´s play was made down their left with Medina, when he cut inside he looked certain to try his luck but Gaizka shielded the ball well. The yellows tried to exploit the hastily refashioned home line up, Echedey wasted a free kick by curling the ball over the bar, and Niki came to the rescue to halt another Medina raid. Marino were giving away too many fouls and it cost them after 20 minutes when Navas powered a free kick to the left of a static Brandon to take the lead. Marino had to weather a prolonged spell of pressure that saw Bryan and Ramirez spurn good chances. The blues regained their composure and started to trouble their guests again, Bamba showed good vision when he tried to lob Choolani from distance, the keeper was relieved to pluck the ball under control.

San Fernando dug themselves a big hole when Ramirez brought down Mylan as he raced clear towards the goal. The ref didn´t hesitate to wave the red card to reduce them to 10 men. It was a handy bit of encouragement for Marino, and just before half time they seized an equaliser. A free kick into the yellows defence caught the goalie off guard, he prodded the ball a few feet in front of him and then got tangled up with his captain, Israel. As they fumbled around, Javi Gonzalez was quick witted and tapped the ball in the net. Marino should have turned the screw at the start of the second half but San Fernando made a spirited reply. Brandon had to be alert and decisive to thwart a Bryan shot, and then claimed the ball off the head of sub Quintero. The Gran Canarian side were getting some mileage out of pushing up their full backs but Marino put the squeeze on them to dry up that supply.

Numbers were evened out after 78 minutes when Navas got into an attacking position but was brought down by Gaizka just outside the penalty area. The ref brandished another red card but Fede could only muster a weak free kick that Marino easily cleared. Samuel added his speedy runs from left back to the home attack, he set up Ahmed for a shot that cleared the bar. Ideally Marino would have made a couple of earlier substitutions but the current shortage of experienced players on the bench limited their options. Mussa came on for Javi with barely 10 minutes left and Marino had a couple of half chances. There was always a danger that San Fernando might grab a winner, Quintero forced a corner and the ball in had to be cleared off the home goal line by a Juanmi header. A draw was a fair outcome and Marino learned a lot about how versatile their players are, but they will be glad to have a full squad available again.

There’s an old saying about keeping your head when all around you lose theirs. CD Marino brought it to mind as they killed off Mensajero with two classy late goals after four players were sent off following a skirmish involving both sets of players .

The 86th minute flash point didn’t change the balance of the game, Marino had already dominated, particularly in the second half, and could have built a commanding lead. The La Palma visitors are always in the promotion mix, and played their usual style of fast breaks down the flanks with big front man Victor the main weapon in front of goal. Kevin Castro tested Kilian in the Mensajero goal with an early cross that was a bit to close to the keeper. Vianney was a danger down the reds left side with full back Azael overlapping. Brandon was taking no chances in the Marino goal, when Victor was racing in for a loose ball the home keeper rushed out and cleared the danger with a strong, decisive kick.

Ahmed nearly unlocked the Mensajero defence with a neat lay off but Javi Gonzalez couldn´t quite connect to put in a shot. Javi was a real handful all afternoon, he breached the defence but fired directly at Kilian. Mensajero were a strong side but found their match in a hard working Marino team, and when the visitors looked to spring through for a shot, they again found Brandon alert and ready to dispatch the ball far upfield. Marino were taking more control as the game went on, Samuel stormed through from the left back slot but his effort was high and wide. A cheeky chip from Jony towards the end of the first half fell just a bit short for Gaizka, and Ahmed created space for Jony to put over the bar just before the break.

Just seconds after the restart, Javi pounced on a loose ball and raced past the Mensajero goalie as he side footed the ball beyond his reach for a 1-0 lead. Omar tried to hit back with a break down the right but Brandon was waiting with a clean take. Marino put the pressure on and lay siege to the visitors goal, Javi could have made a hat trick as he continually beat the defence but was foiled by Kilian. Even a double substitution by Mensajero had little effect, Samuel put in a teasing cross which Kilian caught at the second attempt. Ahmed was also unlucky not to get a better reward for his determined run through the Mensajero defence. Mylan came on for Javi with 15 minutes left and after a clash of heads with Kai, he followed up with a run across Kilian´s path as the ball ran out of play. Oscar chipped in with a few comments and the game was suddenly sizzling.

Brandon snapped up a deflected shot at the other end of the pitch but the action switched to the dug outs when Marino coach Zeben Hernandez reacted to a push by Oscar. Players swarmed around the sideline as the officials tried to calm things down, it all got quite heated and once order was restored the ref sent off Juanmi and coach Zeben for Marino, and Vianney and Oscar from the Mensajero players. Marino kept their composure and Ahmed spotted his chance, winning the ball and walking it into the visitors net.

It was a crushing blow to Mensajero and Mylan went one better as he weaved his way past two defenders and the goalie before adding a third home goal. Mensajero ended the game far from happy with the ref but credit to both teams for ensuring hand shakes were exchanged between both sets of players. Marino now sit just 3 points outside the promotion play off zone where Mensajero hold 2nd spot, the teams may well meet again at the end of the season.

Skill alone is not enough to make a winning team. Hard work, good attitude, and working as a unit all play their part, CD Marino are now showing these qualities and the results are coming. This injury time 1-0 home win over Buzanada was richly deserved and the players are growing in stature each week. Even if Jonathan Sesma´s last gasp break through hadn´t arrived, it would have still been an impressive performance from both sides in a good old fashioned, hard fought local derby. Even the crowd showed an improvement,up to 400. Buzanada brought good support with them and there were also quite a few curious visitors keen to see latest signing, Mylan Carrasco, brother of Belgium star Yannick. Playing on the left wing he fitted in well and bought into the updated game plan of coach Zeben Hernandez.

The goalies were destined to make a big impact on the game, David responded well to his first minute test, and Edwing was equally decisive for the visitors to repel a Favarel shot from a Jony Cabrera right wing cross. Young right back Niki is playing like a seasoned veteran, quick to break, but always ready to clear danger, an early tap back to David snuffed out a Buzanada raid. Javi Gonzalez makes a powerful target man for Marino, Edwing had to be strong and quick in his duels with Javi for the high balls. Buzanada were looking for quick breaks to get at the home defence, Favarel dealt calmly with a twin assault as the white shirts surged forward.

Ahmed is another player who has made big strides, he gets involved all the time, is difficult to shake off the ball, and will take a shot at goal from anywhere. Juan and Benito were dangerous up front for Buzanada, they conjured up a low shot that David mopped up well with a decisive dive. Juan went close again as he squared up to David for a high ball, the home goalie stood tall and blocked the forwards aim. Just after 20 minutes, Buzanada were fuming after being denied a penalty. Arturo beat Saavedra and made to shoot, David stretched and cleared the ball from his feet. The attacker went down claiming David caught his foot, the ref thought otherwise, it looked a close call and the feeling of betrayal simmered for the rest of the game in the Buzanada players, and added more spice to an already hard fought contest.

Lionel set up a clear chance with a soaring free kick, Erwin rose to meet the ball but his header went wide to further frustrate the visitors. Guti had a similar experience for Marino, his floated corner found the head of Ahmed but his downward nod didn´t trouble the keeper. Mylan´s influence had been growing through the first half, winning balls in the air, and chesting them under control, he kept a good supply channel open. After the break, the new boy came close to adding to his previous weeks debut goal at Ibarra, this time Edwing blocked his attempt. David was having an exceptional game in the home goal, his anticipation was first class, and he commanded his area, dribbling the ball out and away for a throw in cleared another danger.

Buzanada had another, lesser shout for a spot kick, they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Marino box but claimed the foul was inside. The claim hardly ruffled the home feathers, Antonio Samuel went flying up to the other end of the pitch and dropped in a lovely cross, Javi Gonzalez jumped for it but had to give second best to Edwing. Mylan will need a few games to get his full sharpness back, he was replaced by Jonathan Sesma after 67 minutes as the sides continued to struggle for top billing. Djavan came on for Javi Gonzalez a few minutes later, another of the youth prospects, Djavan was looking to add to a goal for the B team the day before. Borjita had his own ambitions to score for Buzanada, David was in place again to keep him at bay.

Sub Antonio spotted an opening for the visitors but was squeezed out by two Marino defenders, that brought another hopeful call for a penalty, the ref wasn’t even tempted and showed consistency a few minutes later when Diaz and Meñe closed out Djavan in an almost identical way. Sesma had been making Buzanada nervous with a series of dangerous corners, he went one better deep in injury time, by chasing across and squeezing the ball between goalie and post to ignite wild celebrations with his team mates. Buzanada didn´t have time to mount a serious late charge and trudged off with a few hard stares for the referee.

Confident going forward but a bit naive in defence, CD Marino slipped into the bottom four with a 2-4 home defeat at the hands of high flying Santa Ursula. Even though the score flattered the visitors, it was a classic lesson in capitalising on scoring chances and shutting down opponents.

Sebas was to be the main tormentor for the north Tenerife visitors, he made his intentions known within a couple of minutes as he scooped a shot wide. Jony Cabrera was shaping up for a free shot at the visitors goal but keeper Juanje charged and stopped him, in the process he picked up a muscle strain that haunted the stopper all game. There was a different look to the Marino attack, with Javi Gonzalez taking over the central role and Juanmi adding strength and size alongside him that forced a Santa Ursula defender to intercept his early shot on behalf of his goalie. Yeray was instrumental in driving the visitors forward, his corner deserved a better finish from Joel. With just 20 minutes gone, Yeray found space out wide before crossing into the box for Sebas to snap up a goal as the Marino defence hesitated. Jonathan Sesma was sharp at the other end to send in a swinging shot that just missed the visitors goal. Javi Gonzalez turned Santa Ursula defender Mauro but was fouled before he could unleash a strike, the free kick from Saavedra was some way off target. Just as Marino were threatening to draw level, a speedy break from Pedro unlocked the Marino defence and he pushed on to make it 0-2.

A quick response was needed to stop Santa Ursula from killing the game, Niki provided it by sending across a deep ball from a corner for Javi Gonzalez to head past Juanje. Now it was the reds turn to drive forward and force a corner, Pedro played a long ball across but it had too much power and beat both teams players in front of goal. Yeray cut loose on the right and looked dangerous before Favarel robbed the ball off him. After the half time break, Marino replaced Niki with Ahmed, the pacey forward prompted more pressure on the visiting defence. Jony set up Javi for a decent effort but goalie Juanje cut out the danger. Santa Ursula were always willing to risk a shot, Yeray screwed a shot in from a long way out and it wasn´t far off the target. Joel thought he had an easy finish to extend the lead, David read his intent well and seized the ball at his feet.

Marino still had plenty to offer, a slick move saw Jony go close after some neat passing from Javi and Sesma. Antonio Samuel took to the pitch for Sesma and made a quick impression with a hard shot that Juanje took two attempts to gather safely. Another link up with Ahmed forced Juanje to be at his best again. Marino´s best moves weren´t quite enough to beat a strong, physical defence and a quality goalie, so they added another striker, Djavan in place of defender Connor. Juanje was in the front line again as Djavan challenged him for a high ball, both players fell to the ground, the keeper needing some attention to his niggling injury. The outfield players of Santa Ursula were constantly niggling at the Marino players with pushes and trips, they were determined to protect their advantage.
Another Marino attack saw the ball ricochet around the penalty area like a pinball, Juanmi had the vision to catch it at the right moment and force it into the reds net to tie the game with 10 minutes left.

The blues pushed up for a home win but it left them vulnerable at the rear. Ahmed stepped over a cross ball to let Samuel have a shot but it went wide. Santa Ursula spotted their chance and broke with Miguel riding a half challenge to regain the lead for his team as the final four minutes arrived. Marino kept on attacking but when they lost the ball deep into injury time, a long clearance found Sebas racing down the centre of the pitch to take on David, he slowed and took his time to pop the ball beyond the home keeper. All the youthful promise of recent weeks hasn´t stopped them sliding into the drop zone but reinforcements could put them back on track. Experienced goalie Brandon Hernandez has arrived, and Belgium forward Mylan Carrasco (brother of ex Monaco and Atletico Madrid player Yannick) has also signed.

From their promotion wave to their top of the table start to life in the Tercera Division, UD Tamaraceite have caused quite a stir as they swept long established teams before them. In the first half at CD Marino it was easy to see they had height, power, strength, and bags of confidence to fire them into a 0-2 lead. The home side had more youth team blues in their line up, and they learnt quickly to forge their raw talent into a formidable force, and ultimately were unlucky not to go one better than an impressive 2-2 draw.

A mix of injuries, suspensions, and absentees left gaps to be filled and positional changes to be made. Coach Zeben Hernandez had confidence in his young guns who have come up through the youth ranks together. Connor moved into central defence and inspired those around him, especially Niki at right back. Jony Cabrera again flew down the right wing, and Antonio Samuel still made his lightning breaks of the previous game but this time was overlapping from the left back role. Jonathan Sesma enjoyed more freedom as the lead striker with Gaizka tucked in just behind him.

In some ways, Tamaraceite´s hot form instilled some wariness in the home side. Zizu tested David in the opening minutes, but the keeper was equal to the shot. It took just 7 minutes for Eros to find the back of the home net from a Jose Maria pass. Big left back Jordan of the Gran Canarian side pushed forward and imposed himself at first on Niki but it didn´t last long. Making his own pitch long run, Niki got a great cross in that the goalie, Jonay, had to cut out. Gaizka won a midfield ball and passed on to Jony who found Antonio galloping in, his shot was a little wild but it showed that the visitors were vulnerable to pace.

Tamaraceite made their breaks in numbers with plenty of width and support from their defence, it paid off again after 25 minutes when Jordan picked out Borja for a clear shot to make it 0-2. They should have added a third a minute later, Jordan beat Jony and Niki before setting up Borja who made a mess of his shot. Niki showed his defensive coolness when he tidied up a dangerous loose ball back to David whilst under pressure. Jony made room for Ahmed to run at the away goalie, he scrambled the ball to safety. A third goal conceded before half time would have buried the game, Tamaraceite put more pressure on but the Marino defence stood firm despite Lopez Silva going down in search of a penalty.

Marino were more adventurous in the second half, after Niki had headed clear a Tamaraceite chance, Ahmed´s chipped into the box just eluding Sesma, both in the opening minutes. Jony felt hard done by after being hacked down in the penalty area, the ref didn’t want to know. Pace always worries defenders, Marino had already shown that they were full of running, bringing on another youth player, Djavan for Gaizka just added to the attacking threat. Quickness of reaction was also serving Marino well in defence, Alvarez and Borja combined well for the visitors but Niki nipped in and cut out the danger.

Sesma was enjoying being back in the initial eleven and cut in from the right only to see his shot go out of play after clipping the post. Marino deserved a goal for a slick move involving Niki and Jony that ended with Juanmi heading wide. Tamaraceite were pinned down, goalie Jonay rescued them by snatching the ball off Jony as he bore down on goal. A home goal was overdue, Antonio powered down the left and crossed the ball, Juanmi used his strength to drive the ball into the visitors net with 15 minutes left. Djavan got in on the act, turning Jordan easily and aiming at goal, a defender managed to get the loose ball back to his goalie but it was just a temporary reprieve.

Ahmed picked up a loose ball and picked his way through the Tamaraceite defence before burying the ball in the back of the net to level the scores. There was a frantic end to the game as Marino queued up to try to find a winner. Djavan had another chance that was stopped when the keeper rushed out to claim the ball. Prince easily beat Borja but he went over a little easily and got the free kick call. The final chance came in injury time, a Sesma cross was destined for the head of Djavan but he couldn’t get the direction he needed and it passed outside the post. The point kept Tamaraceite top of the pile, and Marino in 13^th place, a gallant draw and another boost for the future growing confidence of the home squad.

Contented smiles radiated from CD Marino´s dressing room after a comfortable 4-0 home win over CD Union Puerto Rosario. It was a complete team performance but the emergence of players from the Tenerife clubs youth system is gathering pace. Jonathan Cabrera was the latest to make his mark with a debut senior goal.

The Fuerteventura visitors had two good breaks in the opening five minutes but were severely restricted after that. Antonio Samuel tested the visiting goalie, Paquito, from a corner, he was continuing his education on the left wing, and with Cabrera taking up the right flank, Marino had plenty of pace. Samuel was quick to react to a Marino free kick, his downward header was pounced on by Paquito. Union Puerto favoured the big boot up field, which left their forwards plenty to do, Cristian found himself if front of the Marino goal but struck out a foot and actually cleared the danger.

Connor was using his speed on the right to support the home attack, and wasn’t shy to have a pop at goal, the safe hands of Paquito covered his best effort. Marino were taking control of the game, Gaizka miscued one shot, and was robbed by central defender Teto as the goal beckoned. Chata was the most potent threat for the visitors, from a corner he struck the ball well but David turned it aside with ease. The home pressure was constant, when Union were struggling to cope with Samuel, Marino switched the play to the right and up popped Cabrera with a crisp goal past Paquito on the half hour.

Union Puerto tried to respond, a speedy break could have been the answer but Favarel was having none of it and his interception was well judged and effective. Union Puerto had to hang on for the remainder of the half as a rampant Marino lay siege to their goal. Samuel put a free kick over the bar, and Ammed fired wide when he could have laid the ball off to a team mate. The white shirted visitors were mightily pleased to hear the half time whistle. There was plenty more to come from Marino, Teto had to divert an Ammed shot for a corner that Samuel skied from the edge of the box. The only real threat to the home goal was when unmarked sub Lautaro aimed true but was thwarted by the outstretched hand of David.

The task got tougher for Union Puerto just after the hour when Chata picked up a second booking for a foul and was off. Prince had arrived from the subs bench and added his tricky runs to the Marino assault, Paquito did well to divert his early goal bound effort. The keeper was equally impressive when denying a rasping shot from Ammed a few minutes later. Brayan could have doubled the score, he jumped well before heading over under pressure from a challenge that looked like a foul. In the past, Marino have regretted not cashing in on their superiority, it wasn’t going to happen this time.

Prince carried on where he left off last home game, another mazy dribble unlocked the visitors defence and his finish gave the keeper no chance. The striker celebrated with the same enthusiasm he shows in his play, shirt off and sprinting out to the running track, his team mates had to catch him to mob him. The ref booked him for the shirt removal but at least looked apologetic for the compulsory punishment. Into the final 10 minutes and Ammed got his reward for another star display, his powerful drive left Paquito grasping at air. Jonathan Sesma had joined the party from the bench, Prince served him a tempting ball and Sesma placed it perfectly in the bottom corner of the net.

It was a very satisfying all round display from Marino that lifted them to 10^th place in group 12 of the Tercera Division. If they can pick up a few away points they should be able to push for a top four promotion play off place. There’s a nice mix to the squad and confidence is growing fast.

In 700 Tercera Division games CD Marino will have seen fewer stranger than their 2-1 home win over Union Sur Yaiza. Before kick off the club honoured squad members from the 1980-81 season that started that long residency, they must have been as bemused as the other fans by  a flag happy young linesman, and a whistle happy ref who sent off three visiting players.

Antonio Samuel unleashed a crisp early shot for Marino that warmed the Lanzarote goalie’s hands. Right back Connor continually got in behind the Yaiza defence, and on the other side of the pitch Javi Saavedra overlapped and saw his shot ricochet off the post. David was nearly caught cold when Victor produced the first attempt for the green shirted visitors, but it was back to one way traffic as Fayez fed Juanmi for another home effort. Ruyman was bracing himself for a busy afternoon in the Yaiza goal, Connor breached the rear guard again, this time setting up Gaizka, his neat flick was snuffed out by the goalie.

Ammed and Guti both went close, it was inevitable that a home goal would come, after 25 minutes Samuel made another telling run down the left, cut inside, and finished clinically to make it 1-0. Yaiza were stung and tried to respond, Kamara got into a strong position but headed over the Marino bar. Ammed and Samuel both had further chances before the half closed with a Rami header that David took one handed in the home goal. After Tito had his own effort easily dealt with by David to open the second half, Gaizka made way for Javi Gonzalez for the blues. The sub wasted little time in winning a free kick from a menacing run, Ammed fired it over the bar.

Prince Dadia came on for Fayez as Marino looked for the second goal to underline their superiority. It was Yaiza though who found the back of the net with a soft goal from Rami that evaded David. That gave Yaiza some encouragement, they stepped up the intensity of their play and the tackles became fiercer. That still didn´t prepare the fans for a mad five minutes, first a clash of players saw some pushing and shoving, the ref, prompted by his assistant, showed a direct red to Raul and a second yellow to Miguel. Once order was restored, Sesma was Marino´s last sub, in place of Connor, a positive, attacking move.

Javi Gonzalez beat the Yaiza defence and was in the penalty area when Victor hooked him over. The ref pointed to the spot and another direct red for the foul meant Victor joined his mates for an early shower. Sesma stepped up and side footed the penalty straight, the keeper, Ruyman, stood his ground and made a spectacular save. Marino had 10 minutes left to seal the victory and threw their overwhelming numbers at the depleted opposition. Juanmi blasted too high, Prince was on target but brought the best out of Ruyman.

It wasn´t fair to expect more drama but it came anyway in the second minute of injury time. Prince looked hungry and showed great pace to exploit an opening in the Yaiza defence, from outside the box he let loose a perfectly timed shot to leave the goalie stranded. Prince was mobbed by his team mates, there were a few more seconds to be added on though. As play restarted, the Marino bench urged the final whistle to go, and after agonising seconds it did.. It was quite a game to witness, Marino will just be thankful for the three points that boost them up to 11^th place.
